Viscoelastic Characterization of Long-Eared Owl Flight Feather Shaft and the Damping Ability Analysis

Schematic of the tensile test. The test specimen (feather shaft) was center-mounted onto the wedge clamps. Tensile force () was measured while the specimen was pulled at a constant rate of 0.5 mm/min. Tensile process was recorded by a high speed camera and the strain of the specimen was calculated from DIC analysis of the CCD images. DIC analysis was applied with the purpose of excluding the influence caused by the sample debonding, clamping, and the measurement error of sample’s initial length.
