Production of IFNγ and IL-6 in adult BALB/c mice after four i.n. doses of 20 μg of OMP of N. meningitidis and 2 μg of (a) Stx1 toxoid, (b) Stx2 toxoid, or (c) CT. The spleen cultures were stimulated in vitro with 1 or 2 μg of the homologous antigen used for immunization, and the supernatants were harvested after 48 h, and 72 h of culture for IFN-γ or 20 h, 48 h and 72 h for IL-6. IFN-γ concentrations are expressed in ng/mL. IL-6 concentrations are expressed in pg/mL. Normal cells* and concanavalin A were used as controls.
