Potential Canonical Wnt Pathway Activation in High-Grade Astrocytomas

Figure 2

Immunofluorescent staining depicting β-catenin expression patterns in glioma cultures with no (NCH250 (b)) and moderately increased (NCH210 (a)) transcriptional activity and in the colon carcinoma cell line SW480 (c) known for its pronounced transcriptional activity. A preponderance of cytoplasmic and membranous rather than nuclear localization of β-catenin was confirmed in all cell lines analyzed. However, nuclear β-catenin levels (closed arrows) as a prerequisite for transcriptional activation were detected in single cells in NCH210 (a) and were relatively higher in SW480 (c). Scale bars represent 100 μm (a) and 50 μm (b and c), respectively.
