NMDA Receptor-Mediated Neuroprotective Effect of the Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi Extract on the Excitotoxic Neuronal Cell Death in Primary Rat Cortical Cell Cultures

Scutellaria baicalensis (S.B.) extract inhibits the specific binding of [3H]MDL 105,519 to the glycine site of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. Different concentrations of the extract were employed. Nonspecific binding determined in the presence of 2 mM glycine was subtracted from the total binding. Data were calculated as percent of the control binding measured in the absence of the extract.
