Bioenergy and its Environmental Impacts

Description

Energy and environments are essential constituents to our daily life and a way forward for our sustainable development. The reality of dwindling supply of fossil fuels leads to the exploitation of renewable energy. It has been estimated that bioenergy could sustainably contribute 25~33% to the future global primary energy supply by 2050. Bioenergy can have positive and negative environmental impacts, and the net impact can be either positive or negative critically depending on how it is generated.

Many bottlenecks and hurdles in developing sustainable bioenergy production yet exist, and very few universal conclusions can be drawn about its environmental effects. This poses challenges that call for multidisciplinary approaches and intensive research orientations. We thus invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts on fundamental science and technological innovation in bioenergy and on identifying any uncertainty or gap in knowledge of bioenergy and its environmental impacts. We are particularly interested in articles describing solid wastes and wastewaters for energy recovery and removal, bioelectrochemical systems and their biotechnological applications, greenhouse gases emission, and so forth. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Novel biomass conversion technologies
  • Bioenergy processes and utilization
  • Biogas/biohydrogen production and purification
  • Microbial fuel cells/microbial electrosynthesis
  • Waste utilization for bioenergy production
  • Carbon cycle of bioenergy systems
  • Greenhouse gases and climate impacts
  • Environmental impact of bioenergy production

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/tswj/guidelines/ http://www.hindawi.com/journals/tswj/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/tswj/energy/bimp/ according to the following timetable:
