Prostate Cancer: All Aspects
Description
Prostate cancer is the most common visceral malignant neoplasm among men in the USA with an estimated lifetime risk approaching 20% and the 4th most common male malignant neoplasm worldwide. With the use of serum PSA as a screening test, the incidence of prostate cancer has peaked in the last decades, and mortality rates declined with increased early detection rates.
However, there is still an ongoing debate whether or not to screen men considering biological behavior of the tumor. Despite the fact that almost excellent well-established results are being achieved with definitive and modern treatment alternatives, such as da Vinci robot-assisted radical prostatectomy and 3D conformal radiotherapy, active surveillance is nowadays more commonly offered to men with insignificant tumors. Furthermore, focal therapy alternatives as well as patient-specific immunotherapies and targeted anticancer agents are under investigation.
We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the molecular pathology underlying prostate cancer, the development of strategies to treat localized as well as advanced disease, and the evaluation of outcomes. We are particularly interested in articles describing the epidemiological and clinical characterization of prostate cancer and measuring outcomes from clinical trials; advances in molecular genetics and molecular diagnostics; new insights into prostate cancer using animal models; current concepts in the treatment of prostate cancer. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Basic science research in prostate cancer
- Diagnostic aspects, risk factors, and screening
- Treatment modalities of localized disease
- New treatment modalities of advanced disease
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/tswj/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/tswj/urology/pca/ according to the following timetable:
