Definitive contracting atresia in a 3.5 mm follicle with granulose cells reduced to one layer, or with degenerated cells forming atretic bodies (A). The basal membrane (MB) is broken, and in some parts it has totally disappeared. Many glandular cells have disappeared from the theca layer, and fibrocytes are shortened and rounded (arrow).
