JG Cecatti is a medical doctor (University of Campinas, 1981), with residence in Obstetrics and Gynecology (University of Campinas, 1985), assistant professor of the Obstetric Unit of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the same university since 1985, master degree in Medicine (University of Campinas, 1989), PhD degree in Medicine (University of Campinas, 1992), and Master degree in Epidemiology (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, UK, 1993). Senior lecturer since 1993, associate professor since 2000 and full professor of Obstetrics since 2006 for the same university. During these last two decades, for different periods, has been acting as coordinator of the graduate programme on Obstetrics and Gynecology (current position), president of Cemicamp (Center for Studies in Reproductive Health of Campinas), president of IAMANEH (International Association for Maternal and Neonatal Health), director of the Obstetrics Unit of the Woman's Hospital from the University of Campinas, consultant to the Brazilian Ministry of Health, Pan American Health Organization, World Health Organization, etc. During the last few years his main field of interest is severe maternal morbidity and maternal near miss. He created and is currently coordinating the Brazilian Network for Studies in Reproductive and Perinatal Health.
