Motoshi Takao was born in Mie, Japan, July 18, 1959. Takao obtained both the M.D. degree and Ph.D. degrees from School of Medicine, Mie University, Mie, Japan, in 1984 and in 1990. His residency was at Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Mie University, June 1984. In March 1990, Takao graduated from Mie University Graduate School of Medicine and became a Research Fellow in 1991 at Papworth HP (UK). In April 2000, he became Lecturer in Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Mie University, and, in April 2004, Associate Professor and Vice Chief of General Thoracic Surgery, Central Operating Theater in Mie University Hospital. In April 2009, he became Clinical Professor in general thoracic surgery, School of Medicine, Mie University. In May 2011, he became Chief of General Thoracic Surgery, Mie University Hospital. He is Member of the Board of Councilors at Japanese Association for Thoracic Surgery, Japanese Association for Chest Surgery, and Japanese Lung Cancer Society and Member of the Editorial Board at Japanese Association for Chest Surgery. He is also board certified Senior Member of Japanese Association for Thoracic Surgery, Japanese Association for Chest Surgery, The Japanese Respiratory Society, The Japan Society for Respiratory Endoscopy, and Japanese Association for Surgery and Member of International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. His interests are thoracic surgery, thoracic oncology, and lung cancer.
