Abdul Halim Yatim received the B.S. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Portsmouth Polytechnic, Portsmouth, UK, in 1981, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in power electronics from Bradford University, Bradford, UK, in 1984 and 1990, respectively. Since 1981, he has been a Member of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and currently holds the position of Professor. He was Dean of the Faculty from 2010 to 2012. His areas of research interest include power quality, renewable/alternative energy, AND power electronics application, and drives. He was a Commonwealth Academic Fellow at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, UK, and a Visiting Scholar at the Virginia Power Electronics Centre, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA, in 1993. Dr. Yatim is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia and a Registered Professional Engineer with the Malaysian Board of Engineers. He was the first Chapter Chairman of the Malaysian Section of the IEEE Industrial Electronics/Industry Applications/Power Electronics Joint Societies formed in 2003.
