Andrew C. Thorpe is a Consultant Urological Surgeon working at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle, UK. He trained in medicine at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff Medical School, Cardiff, and in surgery at Cardiff, St. Thomas Hospital London and the Royal London Hospital. He trained in urology at the Royal London Hospital, Reading, and at the Freeman Hospital Newcastle, as a Senior Registrar, during which time he passed the FRCS (urol). He also spent a 3-month sabbatical at SUNY, Syracuse, New York, USA, working for Professor Keith Light. Moreover, he spent 2 years in formal research at the Royal London Hospital with Professors John Blandy and Norman Williams looking into the imaging of pelvis floor dysfunction, and he obtained publications, presentations nationally and internationally, and his M.Ch. degree and thesis from this work. His main subspecialist interests are clinical bladder oncology and female urology and reconstruction. He is the Chairman of the North of England Higher Urological Rotation, he is on the Urology Surgical Advisory Committee in the UK, and he is the Honorary Secretary Elect and a Trustee for BAUS. Thorpe is a subsection Editor in Female Urology to the BJMSU and an international Advisor for the Indian Journal of Urology.
