Mirko Petrovic

M. Petrovic was born in 1959. He graduated at the School of Medicine, Belgrade University, Belgrade, Serbia. Petrovic specialised in internal medicine and geriatrics at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium. He is certificated in clinical pharmacology by the Dutch Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Biopharmacy. He is a Consultant Internist/Geriatrician at the Department of Gerontology and Geriatrics, Service of Internal Medicine, Ghent University Hospital, Ghent, Belgium. He is also a Clinical Pharmacologist, attached to Heymans Institute of Pharmacology, Ghent University. His Ph.D. thesis was entitled “Use and discontinuation of hypnosedative medications in geriatric inpatients”, Faculty of Medicine, Ghent University, 2002. Petrovic received postgraduate training in geriatrics and psychogeriatrics in Switzerland and United Kingdom. He works as an Associate Professor of geriatrics and clinical pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences, Ghent University. He is also a Visiting Professor of Geriatrics at Vesalius High School, Ghent, Belgium, and at the School of Medicine, Belgrade University. Petrovic is a Member of the European Academy for Medicine of Ageing (EAMA), the Belgian Society for Internal Medicine, the Belgian Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics, the Dutch Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Biopharmacy, and BPSD Group of the European Alzheimer Disease Consortium (EADC). He received the Award of the Belgian Foundation for Psychogeriatrics (2003) and GerontoNet grant (2008). Petrovic is the author of various book chapters, peer-reviewed publications mainly in the field of drug related problems in old subjects and psychogeriatrics. He is also coauthor and coeditor of books, promoter of dissertations and PhD theses, and reviewer of several international peer-reviewed journals.
