Luís Augusto Rocha

Universidade do Minho, Portugal

Luís Augusto Rocha is graduated from Metallurgical Engineering Department University of Porto, Porto, Portugal, 1984. He obtained his and Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering, Minho University, Braga, Portugal, in 1996. Presently, he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Minho University, Braga, Portugal, and a Visiting Professor at the Araraquara School of Dentistry, UNESP, Sao Paulo, Brazil. He is the Head of the Research Group on Functionalized Materials and Surfaces Performance of the Centre of Mechanical and Materials Technologies (CT2M) at University of Minho. His research interests are focused on the development of functionally graded materials (FGM), surface functionalization of materials, metal/ceramic interfaces, and on the investigation of the degradation mechanisms of those materials, essentially from the corrosion and tribocorrosion point-of-view. Applications are mainly focused on the development and characterization of biomaterials and metal-matrix composites. He is a Member of WP18 on Tribocorrosion (European Federation of Corrosion), LGM-AS – Int. Assoc. for Layered and Graded Materials (World Academy of Ceramics), International Advisory Board on Functionally Graded Materials (FGM Forum, Japan), and Sociedade Portuguesa de Materiais. He participates on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Surface Science and Engineering (SCI), ISRN Corrosion (open-access), and Revista de Corrosão e Protecção de Materiais in Portugal.
