Yong X. Gan

Yong X. Gan was born in Hubei Province, China, in 1965. He received the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Bachelor degree (with distinction) from Hunan University, Changsha, China in 1984, the Materials Science and Engineering Master degree, and D.Eng. degree from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA), Beijing, China, in 1987 and 1992, respectively. He also received the Mechanical Engineering M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University, NY, USA, in 2004 and 2005, respectively. From 1987 to 1997, Gan was a faculty member at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, BUAA. From 1995 to 1997, he was a Visiting Research Scholar at the Center for Materials Research and Education, Department of Mechanical Engineering at Auburn University, Ala, USA. From 1997 to 2002, Gan was a Research Associate of the Fracture Mechanics Lab at Tuskegee University, Ala, USA. From 2005 to 2007, he was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, NY, USA. Presently, he is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, University of Toledo, Ohio, USA. He is mainly interested in materials processing and characterization, micro/nanomanufacturing, energy storage and conversion, mechanics, and design.
