Hua Shan

Dr. Hua Shan received her medical degree from Medical School of Peking University and her Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her residency in Clinical Pathology and fellowship in Transfusion Medicine in the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Shan is currently an Associate Medical Director in the Division of Transfusion Medicine of Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Shan is an expert in clinical transfusion medicine and transfusion transmitted infections. She was the Director of NIH Fogarty International Blood Safety Program at Johns Hopkins University from 2000 to 2007. Since 2007, Dr. Shan has been the Principal Investigator of the U.S. National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) sponsored Retroviral Epidemiology Donor Study (REDS-II)-International China Program. Dr. Shan is also the Principal Investigator of the NHLBI’s new Recipient Epidemiology and Donor Evaluation Study (REDS-III) China Program. Her works have been published in leading journals of transfusion medicine and infectious diseases.
