PERSONAL DATA Born in Livorno (Italy) April 9th 1965. Researcher at the Istituto per la Protezione delle Piante – National Research Council, Firenze, Italy STUDIES 1990 - MSc. degree (laurea) in Forestry at the University of Firenze, discussing a thesis entitled” Dendro-ecological investigations on the Serra San Bruno (CZ) silver fir (Abies alba Mill.)”. 1997 - Ph.D. in Forest Pathology at the University of Firenze, discussing a thesis about “Purification and biological activity of cerato-platanin, a new fungal hydrophobin produced by Ceratocystis fimbriata f. sp. platani and characterisation of the Italian population of the pathogen”. INTERESTS AND PRESENT FIELDS OF WORK • Invasive species. Biogeographic patterns and determinants of invasion by alien forest pathogenic fungi in Europe. • Host-pathogen-environment interaction. Genetic variability of disease resistance, Mechanisms of resistance to pathogens, mechanisms of disease escape, pathogen population genetics by physio-morphological and molecular markers. • Genetics of pathogens populations. • Breeding for resistance to pathogens. Selection of trees resistant to pathogens by controlled crossing and artificial inoculations. Adaptative trials. • Conservation of genetic resources of endangered species, mainly focus on elm. Studies on adaptative characters connected with resistance to pathogens. Genetic studies on trees marginal endangered populations.
