M. Yoon received her Ph.D. degree in 1990 from the Yonsei University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. After 3 years of postdoctoral study at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, she moved to the Mokwon University, Republic of Korea, in 1994. In 2006, she became a Professor at the Department of Life Sciences and in 2011 became a Dean at the College of Science and Technology, the Mokwon University. She received the Outstanding Research Efforts Award from the Mokwon University 2 times and the Best Paper Award from the Korean Society for Biomedical Laboratory Sciences 2 times. She had served on the editorial boards of Pharmacological Research and the Journal of Experimental and Biomedical Sciences. She is the author or coauthor of more 70 articles and the coinventor of 7 patents. Her studies are largely focused on the obesity and its related disorders such as type 2 diabetes and NAFLD, the role of PPARa in obesity, the role of the angiogenesis inhibitors in obesity and its metabolic diseases, and the role of ginseng in obesity and its metabolic diseases.
