Mick holds the post of Professor of Plant Physiology and has an active research group comprising 7 research students working on aspects of abiotic stress physiology in plants covering topics from agronomy to molecular biology. His current research students come from Syria, Iraq, Kurdistan and Kenya. He has supervised 30 research students and examined nearly 40 from across the UK, Cuba, Pakistan, Fiji, France and Ireland. Mick is currently the Head of Graduate School at Plymouth University. He has responsibility for the strategic activities of research students at Plymouth and is currently very active with international recruitment and the sourcing of productive international research partnerships. He has also served on the UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE) Executive since 2006 and currently holds the position of Chair of the Council. He is a member of the QAA Steering Group for the UK Quality Code, is a member of the HEA Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey advisory group and is involved in international doctoral projects with the Council for Doctoral Education, European Universities Association.
