G. F. Bagnato was born in Reggio Calabria on December 26, 1951. He holds a degree in medicine with maximum vote in 1976 from the University of Messina, Italy. He did a postdegree training in respiratory diseases and allergology and clinical. He is the Chief of the Operative Unit in Rheumatology, a Professor of rheumatology, and the Director of the postdegree school in rheumatology at the Medical University of Messina. Moreover, he is a Member of various medicine societies like the Italian Society of Rheumatology, the Italian Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology, and the American College of Allergist. His fields of research include rheumatology immunology and internal medicine. His field of recent research is in biological modifiers in rheumatoid arthritis. In experimental medicine, he collaborated with the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology of London directed by Professor Marc Feldmann, on genic transfer in mice. In addition, Bagnato did various multicentric studies on epidemiology and clinical and therapeutic topics in rheumatology. He also participated in numerous congresses and courses as relator and participant and has over 200 publications in national and international journals.
