Erdem Acar

Erdem Acar received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in aerospace engineering at the Middle East Technical University, Turkey, in 1999 and 2002, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in the same field at the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA, in 2006. He served as Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems of the Mississippi State University, Mississippi, USA, from 2006 to 2008. He began his academic career in 2008 at the TOBB University of Economics and Technology, Turkey, where he currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He is actively engaged in teaching and research. His primary areas of teaching include structural analysis and reliability assessment of mechanical systems. He is the author of a book entitled Aircraft Structural Safety. His research efforts are focused on design optimization of mechanical systems, with strong emphasis on reliability-based design optimization and surrogate-based design optimization of aircraft structures. He has published around fifty refereed journal and conference papers in the previously mentioned areas. He is an Associate Member of the AIAA Non-Deterministic Approaches Technical Committee.
