Robert J. Zawadzki

Robert J. Zawadzki was born in Torun, Poland, in 1975. He received the B.S. degree in experimental physics and computer sciences and the M.S. degree in medical physics from the Nicolaus Copernicus University, Torun, Poland, in 1998 and 2000, respectively. From 1999 to 2003, he spent over three and half years in the Medical Physics Group at University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria, working at Professor Adolf F. Fercher Group first as an Undergraduate and later as a Graduate Researcher. In 2003, he received the Ph.D. degree in natural sciences from the Technical University Vienna, Vienna, Austria. After graduating, he joined Medical Physics Group at Nicolaus Copernicus University, Torun, Poland. Since 2004, he works at Professor John S. Werner’s Vision Science and Advanced Retinal Imaging (VSRI) Laboratory at UC Davis Eye Center, University of California Davis, Sacramento, Calif, USA, where he serves as an Assistant Research Professor. His main research interests have been on the development of new instrumentation for high-resolution in vivo imaging (allowing visualization of individual cellular structures). Currently, he is also involved in studying eye aging process as well as various types of retinal diseases by using these novel instruments to enhance the understanding of its mechanisms. He acted as a Guest Editor for Biomedical Optics Express and as a Panelist for OSA Spotlight on Optics, and he is a Member of ARVO annual meeting program committee.
