Mike J. Adams joined the School of Engineering, University of Birmingham, Birmingham, UK, in 2004. He was previously a Senior Scientist at Unilever R&D. He was awarded a first degree in chemistry and a Ph.D. degree in molecular acoustics. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, The Institution of Chemical Engineers, The Institute of Physics, and the Royal Society of Chemistry. His research interests include product engineering, particle technology, soft solids properties and processing, materials science, complex fluids, interfacial engineering, tribology and adhesion, and fibre science. He has published about 170 scientific papers and coedited four books: Tribology in Particulate Technology, Theoretical and Computational Methods in Tribology, Solid-Solid Interactions, and Dynamics of Complex Fluids. Publications in particle technology include the areas of roll compaction, tabletting, agglomeration, interparticle liquid bridges, and powder friction.
