Otto M. Lesch
Otto M. Lesch received an M.D. degree. Lesch was born on July 6, 1945. Lesch is serving as a Professor of psychology and neuroscience at the Psychiatric University Clinic in Vienna since 1991. Lesch is serving as the President of the Austrian Society for Addiction Medicine since 2005. Lesch received both the Lautenschläger Award 2009 from ESBRA and FeDerSerD Award 2010 by the Italian Society of Addiction Medicine. Lesch is also the Board Member of International Society of Addiction Medicine since 2007 and has been the Secretary of ESBRA from 1993 to 2005. Lesch's scientific work covers mainly the fields of alcoholism research, especially biological markers' (amino acids, genetics) definition of subgroups, alcohol-related disabilities, and psychopharmacology in relapse prevention. Lesch's scientific work also covers prospective long-term studies on alcohol dependence, organization of psychopharmacological European trials in alcohol dependence, and nicotine dependence—diagnostic process of subgroups together with the Institute For Social Medicine. Lesch got more than 250 publications in international journals. Lesch is the Editorial Board Member of the following journals: Alcohol and Alcoholism, Journal on Alcoholism and Related Addictions, Alcologia, European Journal of Alcohol Studies, and Managing Editorial Board of the Frontiers in Bioscience. Lesch's social psychiatric activities included psychosocial outpatient units with 3 units and 15 units from 1976 to 1998 (PSD Burgenland), the community of Vienna and the Caritas: a project for homeless alcohol-dependent patients Lesch type IV in Vienna (Verein Sruktur), and the Head of ProMente Wien from 1993 to 1998.
