Maria Gazouli has graduated from the School of Biology of the University of Athens (B.S. degree with Honors in biology), held a postdoctoral position in the Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, DC, USA, and is currently holding an academic position as a Lecturer at the Department of Biology of School of Medicine of Athens University. Her work refers mainly to molecular basis of diseases, mainly autoimmune diseases and cancer. These activities have produced more than one hundred publications in peer-reviewed journals, more than one hundred announcements in scientific congresses, one granted international patent, and three European patent applications. She participates in a European cohort about inflammatory bowel diseases, which focuses on the implicated molecular pathways and has been involved in the incorporation of nanotechnology to the detection of mycobacterial pathogens as scientific project coordinator.
