Sami T. Azar

Sami T. Azar is currently working as a Professor of medicine at the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon. Prior to his appointment at the American University of Beirut, he served as Instructor of medicine at the Section of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Internal Medicine, University Hospital, Boston University School of Medicine, Mass, USA, from July 1990 to June 1997. Azar received his M.D. degree from the American University of Beirut in 1985 and completed his residency and clinical fellowship training in the field of endocrinology and metabolism at Boston University School of Medicine and the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard School of Medicine, Boston, USA. Azar is a past president of the Lebanese Society of Endocrinology Diabetes and Lipids. He is a Member of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolism and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is also a member of several national and international societies, committees, and medical boards. In the field of research, Azar has published mostly in the areas of endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. He has more than 130 published articles in international journals, and he is the author of many book chapters, books, and monographs. He participated as an invited speaker in many local and international conferences on a number of topics, including diabetes, lipids, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases. He has received several national and international awards.
