My Medical doctor degree was obtained at the National Autonomous University of Mexico Medical School, Mexico City in 1978. Rotating Internship at the Hospitals of the National Medical Center and residency in Pediatrics at Hospital de PediatrĂ­a, National Medical Center, Mexico City 1980-83. Fellowship in Neonatology at University of California San Diego Medical Center USA, 1986-1987. I have been involved throughout my medical activities in teaching medical students, pediatric residents and fellows. Currently I am clinical instructor for neonatal fellows and attending physician of the department of Neonatology in the Hospital Materno Infantil, a large hospital with 12,000 deliveries a year and a very active NICU staffed by 10 neonatologists. The hospital is located in the city of Leon, the 5th largest city in Mexico, within the state of Guanajuato. Our hospital is affiliated to the University of Guanajuato Medical School. My strongest professional interests are neonatal ethics, necrotizing enterocolitis, metabolic problems of the newborn, echoencephalography and new applications of ultrasound in the NICU.
