Juan P. M. Camacho

Juan P. M. Camacho received his Ph.D. degree in biological sciences from the University of Granada (Spain) in 1980, where he is currently serving as a Professor of genetics. In 2008, he received the University of Granada Award for Teaching Excellence. He has been acting as a Member of the Advisory Council of the journal Folia Biologica Krakow since 1993 and a Member of the Editorial Boards of the following journals: Cytogenetic and Genome Research (since 2005) and Chromosome Research (since 2013) and served also at Heredity (from 1996 to 2001). He has performed research in cytogenetics, molecular genetics, and evolutionary genetics, with special interest in the evolutionary role of supernumerary chromosomes and other genomic parasites, such as mobile elements. His current interest also includes the use of next generation sequencing to generate genomic information in nonmodel organisms.
