Yan Yu received his B.S. degree in industrial automation from Harbin University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, China, in 1999, and his M.S. degree in architecture technique science and Ph.D. degree in disaster prevention and reduction engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, China, in 2001 and 2006, respectively. He is an Associate Professor at Dalian University of Technology, Dalian City, China. His research interests include measurement and instrumentation engineering, wireless sensor network, data fusion, structural health monitoring, and intelligent building. Yu is the author of more than 50 published papers and nine patents. Since 2006, he works as Director of DUT-MEMSIC Wireless Sensor Networks Joint Lab and as Deputy Director of Sensors Institute at the School of Electronic Science and Technology at Dalian University of Technology. Since 2006, Yu has held several positions like Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Basic Science and Engineering, Member of China Standardization Working Group on Sensor Networks and China National Information Technology Standardization, and Member of International Society for Structural Health Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructure (ISSHMII). In 2007, Yu won the Science and Technology Advancement Award, Third-Class, in Guangdong province, China. In 2009, 2010, and 2011, he won the Natural Science Academic Achievements Award, First-Class, in Liaoning province, China.
