Makoto Shimada serves as a Senior Assistant Professor at the Division of Gene Expression Mechanism, the Institute for Comprehensive Medical Science in the Fujita Health University, Japan. Shimada obtained his Ph.D. degree in primatology from the Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University, in 1998. After his work at the National Institute of Genetics, the Gifu University, the Rutgers University, the Perlengen Science, and the Biomedicinal Information Research Center in the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, he has been working in his current position since 2008. He has studied the population genetics, molecular evolutionary biology, genome informatics, and database construction. He has also extensive knowledge of primatology and anthropology.
