Burkhard Külshammer obtained his Ph.D. degree in mathematics in 1979 and his Habilitation in mathematics in 1985, both from the University of Dortmund, Germany. He visited the University of Chicago, Manchester University, the University of Oxford, and the University of Mainz, supported by a DFG research fellowship and a Heisenberg fellowship. In 1990, he became an Associate Professor at the University of Augsburg, Germany. Since 1995, he has been serving as a Full Professor of algebra at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany. His research interests include group theory, ring theory, representation theory, and their applications.
