Sebastian Ventura was born in Cordoba, Spain, in 1966. He received the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Cordoba, Cordoba, Spain, in 1989 and 1996, respectively. Currently, he serves as a Professor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Cordoba, where he is the Head of the Knowledge Discovery and Intelligent Systems Research Laboratory. He is the author or coauthor of more than 200 international publications and two books, and editor of about 10 books. Prof. Ventura has also been engaged in 14 research projects (being the coordinator of four of them) supported by the Spanish and Andalusian governments and the European Union, concerning several aspects of the areas of evolutionary computation, machine learning, and data mining and their applications. His current research interests are in the fields of soft computing, machine learning, and data mining and their applications. Dr. Ventura serves as a Senior Member of the IEEE Computer Society; Computational Intelligence Society; Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society; and the Association of Computing Machinery.
