Paolo A. Ascierto

Paolo A. Ascierto holds an M.D. degree. He is the Vice Director of the Unit of Medical Oncology and Innovative Therapy at the National Tumor Institute in Naples, Italy. He trained at the University of Naples, with postdoctoral research at both the Department of Medical Oncology, University Federico II, Naples, and the National Tumor Institute, Naples, Italy. Some of his additional roles include membership of the Associazione Italiana di Oncologia Medica (AIOM, Italian Society of Medical Oncology), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). He is the Editor of the Combination Strategies Section of the Journal of Translational Medicine. He is also a Member of the Editorial Boards for a number of prestigious journals including the Journal of Skin Cancer and the Journal of Molecular Biomarkers & Diagnosis. His research interests include the genetics and proteomics of melanoma, the assessment by RT-PCR of new molecular markers for tumor progression, and the biochemical and immunological monitoring of patients with malignant melanoma. He has also been involved in multiple, international clinical trials investigating novel agents for the treatment of malignant melanoma.
