Jose Antonio Palenzuela

Jose Antonio Palenzuela was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, The Canary Islands (Spain) in 1959. He received his degree in chemistry in 1981 and the Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry in 1986, both at the University of La Laguna. After a Postdoctoral position at the University of California, Riverside with Professor W. H. Okamura, he was appointed Assistant Professor of chemistry at the University of La Laguna in 1989. Dr. Palenzuela was promoted to Full Professor of organic chemistry in 2000 at the same University and has occupied several academic positions. From 2007 to 2010, he served as the Chairman of the Department of Organic Chemistry of the University of La Laguna. Dr. Palenzuela serves as a Member of the Instituto Universitario de Bio-Orgánica Antonio González, a research institute belonging to the University of La Laguna. His research interest is focused in the development of synthetic methodology, particularly using allenes as building blocks, the study of the cycloaddition reactions and in the explanation of the reaction courses of those processes using high level calculations.
