Dario Bruneo received the computer engineering degree from the Engineering Faculty of the University of Palermo, Palermo, Italy, in 2000 and the Ph.D. degree in advanced technologies for information engineering at the University of Messina, Messina, Italy, in 2005. From 2001 to 2002, he worked as a Researcher at the Research and Development Laboratory of the Engineering Ingegneria Informatica (SpA). He is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Engineering of the University of Messina. The research activity of Bruneo has been focused on the study of distributed systems with particular regard to the management of advanced service provisioning and to the system modeling and performance evaluation. His current research topics include Internet of Things (and its application in Smart City scenarios), monitoring and evaluation of Cloud computing systems, and performance and reliability of complex systems. He is coeditor of the book Quantitative Assessments of Distributed Systems: Methodologies and Techniques, Scrivener/Wiley. He has been involved in the FP7-ICT European projects RESERVOIR, Resources and Services Virtualization without Barriers; Vision Cloud, Virtualized Storage Services Foundation for the Future Internet; and CloudWave, Agile Service Engineering for the Future Internet and he has been Vice-Coordinator of the PRIN national project Cloud@Home: A New and Powerful Computing Paradigm. He is a member of the program committees of several international conferences and workshops and he serves as reviewers for prestigious international journals.
