Carmen Peralta, M.D., Ph.D., serves as an IDIBAPS Researcher and Coordinator of the Consolidated Research Group for the Generalitat of Catalonia. She was awarded the Certificate of Research Proficiency as an Assistant Professor by the Commission for the Accreditation of Research in the Medical and Health Sciences, Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency. Her research is focused on pharmacological and surgical strategies that protect steatotic and nonsteatotic livers against the vulnerability of this type of liver to ischemia-reperfusion injury and regeneration failure associated with hepatic resections and liver transplantation. Protective strategies in reduced-size liver transplantation are also investigated. She has published more than 73 papers in international journals with considerable impact factor and most of them (73%) as first/last signatory. She has participated in 71 national and international conferences, in 29 publically funded R&D projects in hepatic ischemia-reperfusion, and 6 Contract R&D with special relevance to business and/or the administration. She serves as an Assessor of research projects and grants funded by various organizations and as a Member of the Editorial Boards of international journals. The research conducted by her in the field of hepatic ischemia-reperfusion has provided the basis for the successful application of protective strategies such as ischemic preconditioning in clinical practice in normothermic ischemia-reperfusion associated with tumor resection and liver transplantation.
