Churchill Okonkwo

Churchill Okonkwo earned his M.S. degree in geology and environmental sciences from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria (2005), and the American University, Washington, DC (2010), USA, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in atmospheric sciences from Howard University, Washington, DC, USA. His doctoral dissertation was on the understanding of teleconnections between climate indices and precipitation in the Sahel region and their impacts on the Lake Chad level variability. He is currently working with the Washington DC Water and Sewer Authority and is also the Director of the African Center for Climate Science and Policy Research, Washington, DC, a think tank that strives to resolve environmental problems relating to changing climate in Africa based on sound science and policy formulation. His current interest is in climate system/hazard monitoring and diagnostics of climate anomalies aimed at preparing and strengthening institutions for disaster prevention, mitigation, and adaptation.
