Nicolas Joly was born in Limoges (France) in 1976. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Université de Limoges in 2003 under the supervision of Professor Pierre Krausz in the field of Applied Chemistry – Chemistry of Natural Compounds. His Ph.D. was focussed on the valorization of agricultural and forestry byproducts, especially on the synthesis and the characterization of new plastic films obtained by acylation and crosslinking of cellulose. From 2004 to 2005, he became ATER (non-permanent researcher and teacher) and joined the Blood-Brain Barrier Laboratory (University of Artois) under the supervision of Professor Roméo Cecchelli. During these 2 years, he has studied the synthesis and the charactérization of heterocyclic molecules for therapeutical applications and he has also continued with his activities on the valorization of agricultural and forestry byproducts by the synthesis of surfactants based on natural oligo- and polysaccharides. In 2006, he becomes Assistant Professor and joined the «L.P.C.I.A.» and in 2009 the UCCS (UMR CNRS 8181) where he already develops Natural-Based Surfactants and Materials, especially based on carbohydrates and polysaccharides.
