Vratislav Hurai worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mineralogy and Petrology, Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovak Republic, from 2001 to 2003; an Associate Professor in the Department of Mineralogy and Petrology at the same university, from 2003 to 2006; and a Senior Scientist at the Geological Institute, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava, Slovak Republic, since 2007. He obtained the Ph.D. degree from Comenius University in 1989, a habilitation (origin of siderite veins in the Gemeric unit of Slovakia) in 2002, and a D.S. degree (crustal fluids of Western Carpathians) in 2009. Hurai is the recipient of many awards like the best paper award from the Slovak Geological Society in 1999, the Radek Melka best paper award (2nd place) in 2003, and the Bohdan Swiderski award from the Galicia Tectonic Group (best original scientific paper) in 2007 and 2009. His research interests include fluid and melt inclusions in minerals, stable isotopes, and thermodynamics. Hurai was a Member of Geologica Carpathica from 2000 to 2011.
