Cander retired from the Radio Communications Research Unit at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Didcot, Oxfordshire, UK, in June 2006, and since then she has been a Visiting Scientist at the same laboratory. She studied electrical engineering and obtained an M.S. degree in plasma physics in 1974 from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. Working as a Senior Scientist at the Geomagnetic Institute, Grocka, Belgrade, she received a Ph.D. degree in ionospheric propagation from the University of Belgrade in 1984. Following this she was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, Rome, Italy, before moving to the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Her numerous publications and review articles on ionospheric monitoring and modeling are referenced widely. She has contributed to several long-term EU-funded projects in the area of ionospheric radio propagation and prediction and has served on numerous scientific committees and panels.
