Paolo Caliceti received the M.S. degree in 1984 in pharmaceutical chemistry and technology and the Ph.D. degree in 1989 in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Padua, Padua, Italy. Since 2002, he is a Full Professor in pharmaceutical technology at the University of Padua. His work experience includes the following: Visiting Scientist at Glaxo (1984); Visititng Researcher at the National Institute of Health Bethesda (Md, USA) (1986-1987); Postdoc at Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Padova (1988-1989); Postdoc at CNR (1989); Visiting Scientist at the Academy of Sciences, Moscow (1990); Visiting Scientist at SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals (Pa, USA) (1994). His areas of interest include the following: modification of bioactive peptides and proteins with soluble polymers; production of lipid and polymeric biodegradable nano-/microparticles for slow and controlled drug release by classical or supercritical techniques; development of multifunctional macromolecules as protein therapeutics (polyamino acids and polysaccharides); preparation and in vitro and in vivo characterisation of new cyclodextrin based drug carriers; gold nanoparticles as drug delivery systems; functional micelles and polymersomes. He is the President of CRS Italy. He has 7 international patents (including 2 Italian ones) and over 135 publications.
