Dr. Julio Alvarez (DVM, PhD), microbiologist and epidemiologist, has performed his research in zoonotic pathogens for the last 10 years, co-authoring more than 50 peer-reviewed publications on different pathogens included in the proposed topic (Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, Mycobacterium avium complex, Brucella genus, Coxiella burnetii…) and working always on the human-livestock-wildlife interface. He has been the head of the Neglected and Emerging diseases unit of the VISAVET Health Surveillance Centre (University Complutense of Madrid) and is currently a post-doc at the Instituto Ramón y Cajal de Investigación Sanitaria (Hospital Ramon y Cajal in Madrid, Spain) and a collaborator of the European Reference Laboratory for Bovine Tuberculosis located at VISAVET.
