Marieke Van Zoelen

Marieke (M.A.D.) Van Zoelen was trained as a physician at the University of Amsterdam (2003, Amsterdam, NH, The Netherlands). In 2009 she finished her Ph.D. degree focusing on the role of the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) in pneumonia, peritonitis, and sepsis (Center for Infection and Immunity Amsterdam (CINIMA), Prof. Dr. T. van der Poll, Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam, NH, The Netherlands, Currently she is extending her research being further trained in internal medicine and infectious diseases at the Department of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the University Medical Center of Utrecht (Utrecht, UT, The Netherlands). In her research, Zoelen seeks to increase insights into the pathogenesis of and possible new therapeutic targets for pneumonia, peritonitis, and sepsis. In 2012, she was the winner of the IDWeek International Investigator Award (IDSA). She will work as a Postdoc at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research in Manhasset, NY, USA.
