Lorenzo Spaggiari

Lorenzo Spaggiari was born in Casina, Italy, on May 9, 1961. He graduated at the Medical School in 1988 and he obtained the research doctorate (a Ph.D. degree) in surgical cardiothoracic physiopathology in 1995. Subsequently, he completed the residency in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. He worked from 1988 to 1994 at the Department of General Thoracic and Vascular Surgery of the University of Parma, Parma, Italy. In 1991 and 1992, he was a Research Fellow in Madrid, Paris, and Bordeaux, France. In 1993 and 1995, he was Clinical Fellow and Assistant Surgeon, respectively, at the Division of Thoracic Surgery, Marie Lannelongue Hospital, Paris, France. In 1996, he worked as Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at the Institut Mutualiste Montsouris, Paris. In May, 1998, he became Deputy Director in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at the European Institute of Oncology, Milan, Italy, and the Director of the same division, in January 2003. In 2006, he has been a Professor of thoracic surgery at the School of Medicine, University of Milan, Milan, Italy. Currently, he is Director of Lung Cancer Program at the European Institute of Oncology, Milan, Italy, and Chief of Surgical Thoracic Department. He is Member of the following societies: European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, European Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and Italian Society of Thoracic Surgery. He is the Fellow of the European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and a Member of Robotic Working Group (TDWG) Robotic and Thoracic Oncology.
