John Philip

John Philip obtained his Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India, in 1992. He joined IGCAR in 1996, after his postdoctoral stay at CRPP-CNRS, Bordeaux, France. He also did postdoctoral research at University of Hull, Kingston upon Hull, UK. Presently, he is heading two sections (SMARTS and RTS) in Metallurgy and Materials Group of Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam, India. He is also a Professor at the Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai, India. Philip has received several awards such as Distinguished Faculty award (2005-2013), Science and Technology Excellence Award of DAE (2006), INS Medal (2007) of Indian Nuclear Society, ISNT NDT National Award (2009), MRSI Medal (2010), and Ron Halmshaw Award by British Institute of NDT in 2010. He is recipient of many international fellowships which include Monbusho (Japan), CIES (France), Switzerland Research Fellowship, and French ministry scholarship. He executed an Indo-French project on nanoemulsion during 2000-2003, which was rated excellent. He is a recipient of perspective research grant of BRNS on development of advanced nanofluids (530 lakhs). He has six patents in his credit and over 160 publications in leading refereed international journals and 60 conference papers. His H-index and i10-index are 37 and 85 with over 4500 citations. He has delivered more than 60 invited lectures in India and abroad. Media (Nature, IOP nanotechweb, Hindu, Indian Express, etc.) highlighted his work on several occasions. He is a Reviewer of several international journals and research funding agencies in India and abroad. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Nanofluids and Member of board of studies of Pondicherry University. 10 Ph.D. students have completed their thesis under his guidance and seven are pursuing their Ph.D. studies under his supervision. The research activities of Dr. Philip are in the broad area of smart nanomaterials, ferrofluids, nanofluids, soft matter, NDT, thermal imaging, and radiography.
