User Biography : Dr Fengjie Sun Fengjie Sun received a B.S. in biology (1990) and was trained primarily as a traditional plant taxonomist at Northeast Normal University, P. R. China (M.S. degree in Biology, 1993). In the Hill Lab at Idaho State University, Fengjie Sun studied flower development in Nicotiana tabacum (Solanaceae) and received an M.S. degree in botany (1997). For his dissertation research in plant molecular systematics in the Downie Lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Fengjie Sun worked on estimating the phylogenetic relationships of a group of Rocky Mountain Umbelliferae (Cymopterus and related genera) and received a Ph.D degree in plant molecular systematics (2003). Since 2003, Fengjie Sun has expanded his research into the areas of evolutionary biology and bioinformatics (computational biology) by joining the Caetano-Anollés Lab and worked on evolutionary studies of RNA structures using phylogenetic analyses. Currently, Fengjie Sun is an assistant professor of biology at Georgia Gwinnett College.
