Marian Valko was born in Bratislava, former Czechoslovakia, and received his M.S. degree from Slovak Polytechnic Institute, Bratislava, Slovakia, in 1987. He earned a Ph.D. degree from Slovak Technical University, Bratislava, Slovakia, in 1991. He started his academic career in 1991 at Slovak Technical University in Bratislava as an Assistant Professor and eventually Associate Professor (in 1999 with tenure). Since 2010, he is Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology. He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate (1991-1992) at the Liverpool Polytechnic, Liverpool, UK, and a Royal Society Visiting Scientist (1994-1995) at Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool, UK. Valko has coauthored more than 100 articles in peer reviewed journals and coauthored several book chapters (Wiley-Blackwell, Springer, and American Chemical Society). His papers have been cited more than 12000 times according to Web of Science (Thomson Reuter's data). He is an Associate Editor of Chemical Papers (Versita, Springer). He also serves on the editorial boards of Medical Gas Research (Biomed Central) and ISRN Spectroscopy.
