Elizabetta Albi obtained a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Perugia, 1986‐87. She is the responsible Head for the Nuclear Lipid Biopathology laboratory, from 1997. From 2004 until now, she participated in the preparation and realization of the following projects: Cassa di Risparmio di Perugia 2004, 2005, and 2006; Erasmus Mundus Programme 2006; Socrates Accompanying Measures project 2006; CIB2006; Vigoni 2006; Regione Umbria‐Bando Obiettivo 3 Postdiploma e Alta Formazione Misure C3‐D4 2004, 2005, and 2006; Programma Vinci 2005; MIUR‐Iniziative per la diffusione della cultura scientifica 2005,2006,2007, and 2009; ASI 2006-2009; PRIN 2006; and ESA 2010. She is author of more than 140 publications (international articles, reviews, book chapters and abstracts of congresses). Her biography has been included in 2009‐2010 Edition of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare. She has a long‐lasting expertise on the cell cycle and on nuclear lipids, demonstrating their role in relation to cell function. She has demonstrated, for the first time at international level, an intranuclear lipid metabolism and the existence of the nuclear lipid rafts associated with the microdouble‐strands DNA and RNA. Moreover, she has demonstrated that the low levels of serum cholesterol/phospholipids are associated with the high antiphospholipid antibodies in monoclonal gammopathy and that the high levels of these antibodies are also present in gastroenteric cancer patients. Studies on haematological malignancies have highlighted the importance of the severe hypocholesterolemia in the cancer.
