Bettina Wedi

B. Wedi is a Professor at the Department of Dermatology and Allergology at the Hannover Medical University in Hannover, Germany since 2005 (Director: Professor Alexander Kapp). She is heading the Unit for Allergology and the Allergology Laboratory. Professor Wedi qualified from Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, Germany (1994), then undertook research fellowships (German Research Foundation) at Freiburg and Hannover Universities, Germany. She received Board certification in dermatology and Allergology in 1998. In 1999, she was awarded the Herbert-Herxheimer Commemorative Award by the German Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology and in 2000, she received the Klaus-Kalveram Award from the German Society of Allergologists. Professor Wedi is chairwomen of the Allergology Quality Assurance Subcommission of the German Society of Dermatology and Authorized Guideline Representative of the German Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology. She is a member of many national and international dermatologic and allergologic societies and organizations. She has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and reviews and more than 20 book chapters. She is reviewer for several allergy journals, for First View Allergy (Elsevier), Dermatology Faculty of 1000 Medicine Section Member for “Atopic Dermatitis & Other Forms of Eczema”, member of the Advisory Council of the official journal of the German Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology (DGAKI) and the Association of German Allergologists (ÄDA), and Web Editorial Board Member of the World Allergy Organization (WAO). Her current research interests include the causes and treatment of urticaria, drug hypersensitivity, and insect venom allergy, the neuroimmunology of allergic skin diseases such as atopic eczema, and the role of eosinophils in allergic inflammatory reactions.
