Andrea Falqui

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia

Andrea Falqui received his degree in physics with the highest marks and honors in July 1993 from the University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy, with a dissertation on SEM and EDS quantitative analysis. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in physics with the highest marks from the University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy, in February 2001, with a dissertation on magnetic properties of nanocomposite materials. Dr. Falqui has been a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at CEMES/CNRS, Toulouse, France, carrying out the research project based on investigations of magnetic nanocomposites and high resolution transmission microscopy and EELS spectroscopy (2001‐2002). He has served as an Assistant Professor of physical chemistry, University of Cagliari, from July 2002 to the present. In this capacity, Professor Falqui has taught physical chemistry, solid state physical chemistry, physics of materials, and mathematics. In addition, Falqui worked as a Visiting Researcher and as a Professor at INSA (Institut National de Sciences Appliqué), Toulouse, France, in 2006, 2007, and 2009, where he taught general physics and carried out research on nanomaterials by conventional and high resolution transmission and scanning transmission electron microscopy and concomitant EDX spectroscopic studies. Falqui was also the Founder and Director of the Electron Microscopy Laboratory, Italian Institute of Technology, Genoa, Italy, from April 2008 to April 2014. From April 2014, he has served as an Associate Professor of bioscience at Biological and Environmental Sciences and Engineering Division, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. In this capacity, he teaches advanced electron microscopy imaging and is establishing a new research team constituted by Researchers, Postdoctoral Fellows, and Ph.D. degree students. He is also an Expert of magnetic behaviour of nanomaterials, studied by SQUID magnetometry. Furthermore, Falqui is the coauthor of a book chapter and more than 120 papers published in international scientific journals.
