Laila Darwich achieved her D.V.M. degree (Extraordinary Award Mention) (1994–1999), M.S. degree in veterinary medicine from UAB (2001), and Ph.D. degree in veterinary medicine from the Animal Health and Infectious Diseases Unit, all from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), Barcelona, Spain. Since 2007, she has been an Associate Professor at the Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology Unit, Veterinary Faculty, UAB, and a Researcher at the Animal Health Research Center (CReSA) and Irsicaixa Foundation, Institute of AIDS Research, University Hospital Germans Trias I Pujol, Badalona, Spain. Darwich was an Assistant Professor from 2003 to 2005 at the Unit of Infectious diseases and Epidemiology, Animal Health Department, UAB. She spent her Ph.D. degree student stage at the Institute National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA), Toulouse, France. She achieved a Postdoctoral Fellowship (2005‐2007) at the HIV Clinical Unit, Irsicaixa Foundation. Darwich’s areas of expertise are the following: viral immunity and immunopathology (humans: HIV and human papillomavirus; animals: PRRSV and PCV2) and epidemiology of infectious diseases in wildlife (Salmonella, parasitic infections). She is a Member of the Catalonian Society of Immunology.
